EVO Power awarded six major projects by Ergon Energy, a subsidiary of Energy Queensland.
Melbourne-based energy storage provider EVO Power has been appointed a leading role in Energy Queensland’s project to future-proof the local energy network.
Six major projects have been awarded to EVO Power by Ergon Energy, a subsidiary of Energy Queensland, across 2023. Each of the six sites will see the deployment of EVO Power’s state-of-the-art Medium Voltage (MV) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) providing network security for Queensland residents and businesses alike.
As a part of the state’s rapid intake of renewable energy, the regions, Mundubbera, Rasmussen and Briffney will soon be home to EVO Power’s innovative energy storage solutions.
‘We’re thrilled to be partnering with Ergon Energy and Energy Queensland on such a vital project’, said EVO Power’s Managing Director, Deepak Nayak. ‘We believe EVO Power’s manufacturing capacity, local presence and uniqueness of our offering made us an obvious choice for a project of this size. Ergon and Energy Queensland are committed to delivering this project on time and on budget and EVO Power will support them to safeguard that commitment.’ he concluded.
The announcement means that EVO Power will be responsible for the design, engineering, integration and supply of their world-class energy storage solutions. In addition to hardware implementation, EVO Power will be responsible for grid modeling support, commissioning and training to ensure a smooth delivery of the project.
Construction of the first 4.5MW / 10.435MWh MV BESS will commence in the third quarter of 2023 with a target to complete all six by the end of 2023.
Demand for secure, renewable energy storage systems is at an all-time high. By 2023, the number of residential and commercial solar installations are expected to double along with an increased uptake of an estimated 1m electric cars on the roads.
Peter Price, Energy Queensland’s Executive General Manager, Engineering, said: “The planned battery systems are another step closer to supporting Queensland’s target of 70% renewables by 2032 in a safe and reliable way.
“The flexibility of batteries to soak up solar when the sun is shining and shift that energy into the evening to support night time loads is a key enabler to the renewable energy transition and by placing the batteries in the distribution network, close to the roof top solar, ensures that energy generated locally, stays locally maximising benefits for customers, retailers, transmission and distribution networks.”
Melbourne-based EVO Power, which was founded in 2019, has experienced rapid growth since their inception. Along with this project, EVO Power is also deploying their energy storage solutions to Solar Farms across Australia, propelling them into small and medium utility projects.
Group CEO, Jamie Allen describes the Energy Queensland partnership as a ‘coming of age’ for EVO Power.
‘Having previously focused on large commercial and industrial projects, we’ve now got our sights set firmly on utility-scale projects as well. With the recent opening of our offices in the USA, EVO Power has established a solid platform both locally in Australia and globally’ he said. ‘The energy industry is evolving at a lighting pace, so there’s never been a better time to lead the pack with superior quality, reliable and sophisticated battery technology backed by local support.’ says Allen
Being appointed by Energy Queensland, as well as other public and private entities, proves that EVO Power is well on its way in achieving their audacious goal of being the most trusted technology partner in the renewable energy industry.
