How safe are C&I Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)?

How safe ARE COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)?

When you have public and community in close proximity to a large battery unit, you want to ensure they are safe. It’s your organisation’s duty of care to protect those who enter your premises.

Safety is something EVO Power takes extremely seriously.

Founder and Managing Director, Jamie Allen, is a mechanical engineer by trade and he understands the importance of delivering Energy Storage Solutions that are designed by engineers – who, by their nature, solve problems. With this, we wouldn’t release a BESS that wasn’t comprehensively tested in various scenarios.

The fact NEO systems are now being installed in hospitals, schools, aged care facilities and shopping centres is testament of our ability to demonstrate our due diligence in safety.

HOW EVO POWER’S C&I BESS “NEO SERIES” ENSURES SAFETY

Commercial or industrial premises need to consider risks as part of their safety management. Our engineers have taken every consideration in their design of NEO.

EVO Power's NEO Series BESS boasts:

  1. Safety certificates that comply to the strictest international safety standards for both batteries and inverters.

  2. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)
Widely recognised as the safest lithium-ion battery chemistry currently available on the market.

  3. Built-in heat detector

  4. Built-in smoke detector

  5. Integrated fire suppression system
This automatically releases aerosol that quickly and effectively extinguishes fires without depleting oxygen levels.

  6. Robust Battery Management System (BMS)
A battery management system indicates the health of a battery but also protects the battery while in operation. NEO features include Safety Management; HV Safety; Monitoring; Balancing; Passive Balancing; Active Balancing & other safety features.

  7. Liquid Cooling System
Liquid runs through the tubes that surround the battery cells and electrical components. the liquid coolant draws in heat generated by usage and continuously flows to transfer the heat out of the system and keeps the battery racks from overheating.

  8. Cyber Security
NEO is ISO/IEC 27001 – the international standard for information security. This means only authorized persons have the right to access and change information, and that information must be accessible to authorized persons whenever it is needed.

Other Safety measures in the NEO C&I BESS include:

  • Battery module enclosure is IP66 protection grade
  • Automatically controls cooling, heating and temperature settings of the liquid cooling unit.
  • Insulation detection, high-voltage sampling, and status checks of safety devices such as MSD and fuse.
  • Integrated Heater/Chiller
  • AC/DC Protection.
